FAQs – Ol Pejeta Day Trip from Nairobi

Yes, the Ol Pejeta Conservancy is approximately 3.5 hours from Nairobi by road, making it ideal for a 1-day private safari from Nairobi. With an early departure (around 5:30 AM), you’ll have plenty of time for a full game drive, a visit to the chimpanzee sanctuary, and even the northern white rhino enclosure — all in one day.

Ol Pejeta offers one of Kenya’s best Big Five experiences. You can expect to see:

  • Black and white rhinos

  • Lions, elephants, and buffalos

  • Reticulated giraffes, zebras, impalas, and more

  • Plus: chimpanzees at the Sweetwaters Sanctuary

Ol Pejeta is the only place in Kenya where you can see both chimpanzees and rhinos on the same safari. It's also home to the last two northern white rhinos in the world, making it a globally important conservation hub.

This is a private Ol Pejeta day trip, which means your group gets:

  • A private safari vehicle (van or 4x4 Land Cruiser)

  • A personal driver-guide

  • A flexible itinerary tailored to your interests

Ol Pejeta offers excellent game viewing year-round. However, the best time for clear skies and optimal wildlife sightings is during the dry seasons:

  • January to March

  • June to October

Early morning departures help maximize time in the conservancy.

The Sweetwaters Chimpanzee Sanctuary visit is included by default. The northern white rhino enclosure visit is optional and comes with an additional conservation fee (~$50) per person.

We recommend booking both for a full experience.

Yes — we include lunch at Morani’s Restaurant inside the conservancy, or we can provide a packed picnic lunch if you prefer to eat in the wild. Vegetarian and special diet options are available on request.
