What Travellers Say

About Nairobi National Park: Kenya's unique urban safari destination

Established in 1946, Nairobi National Park is Kenya's oldest and most extraordinary wildlife sanctuary. Covering 117 km² of open savannah, riverine forest and rocky gorges just 7 km from Nairobi's city centre, it is the only national park in the world located inside a capital city — making every Nairobi National Park half-day tour a genuinely once-in-a-lifetime experience.

The park is home to approximately 100 mammal species including lions, leopards, cheetahs, buffaloes, zebras, Masai giraffes, hippos, and both black and white rhinos. Its dedication as the "Kifaru Ark" has made it Kenya's most successful black rhino breeding sanctuary, with sighting reliability that exceeds much larger parks on a short-visit basis.

For travellers on a Nairobi layover safari, the park's proximity to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) — just 10 km away — makes it the world's most accessible wildlife destination. A half-day safari from JKIA can be completed in 4–5 hours, fitting comfortably into any layover of 6 hours or more.

Annest Kenya Safaris has been operating private Nairobi National Park tours since 2018. All our guides are Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) licensed and carry Nairobi National Park specialist certifications. We exclusively offer private tours — meaning your guide, your schedule, and your wildlife encounters are never shared with strangers.

Our half-day Nairobi National Park tours start from $125 per vehicle (Safari Van, up to 4 passengers) or $145 for a 4×4 Land Cruiser Jeep. Park entry fees are $80per adult (non-resident), paid separately via eCitizen. Our all-inclusive package at $228 covers vehicle, guide, and park entry for up to 4 passengers.

You'll reliably see giraffes, zebras, hippos, and many antelope species on every drive. Lions are spotted on 80%+ of morning drives. Black and white rhinos (the "Kifaru Ark") are highly reliable — better odds than most larger parks. Buffaloes, warthogs, ostriches, and 100+ bird species are also common. Leopard and cheetah are occasional bonuses.
